Your worth does not depend on looking like everyone else. God made you with your own features, your own gifts, and a personality that belongs to no one else. Constantly trying to fit in can make you forget who you really are. Learning to accept yourself and live honestly is part of growing up with emotional security.

Fátima was at a gathering where everyone seemed to talk, dress, and act in very similar ways. As she looked around at the people there, she started to feel that she had to change some things about herself in order to fit in better.

For a moment she thought about faking tastes, opinions, and attitudes that were not really hers, just to feel accepted. But on the way home she remembered something her mother said often: “You do not have to stop being you in order to be worth something.” Sometimes the wish to belong makes us feel pressure to act like someone we are not. We want to avoid the feeling of rejection, or of being seen as different.

But God did not create identical people. Your personality, your tastes, the way you think, and your gifts are also part of how He made you.

Trying to fit in at any cost can make you forget your own identity. God does not want you to stop being who you are in order to turn into someone else.
